Why engineered floorboards?
Engineered floorboards are the latest technology in timber flooring, combining a real hard timber surface layer with multi-plywood sub-layers of thinly cut hardwood and softwood plantation timbers. These multi-plywood layers are glued in multiple directions provide superior strength, rigidity, and stability of the top layer of solid timber. The result is a superior strength floor board:
That can typically be made wider and longer than solid boards,
Has the same or thicker "wear" (sanding layer) than solid floor boards,
That predominantly consists of plantation timbers which is positive for our environment,
Is more affordable as more planks can be produced from hardwood sources, and
Is more resistant to moisture effects.
The benefits of European Oak
European Oak (also known as "French Oak") is a high density timber providing superior strength and wear properties. It can be cut accurately, drilled and glued making it easier to work with. See this article on Why Engineered European Oak flooring?
| LARGE PLANKS
190mm wide x 1900mm long x 14.5mm thick. Long wide planks are not possible with solid timber and provide a superior look to your floor
|THICK WEAR LAYER||
A pre-finished wear layer (sand-able real oak top layer) of 3.5mm allows at least two future sandings and re-finishing if ever required
Engineered floating floor - base layers are cross layered and glued plywood plantation timbers.
Up to 30% of planks are precut to two shorter random lengths to assist installers with staggering boards
RIKU presents natural earthy mid tone base colours in a matte finish. The natural oak grains, swirls, and knots are subtley darker. As a natural product there will be a variety of natural features as expected from hardwood.
Semi distressed surface with matte finish including full UV protection. Ready to walk on after installation
Subtle bevelled edge
Tongue and Groove (T&G)
Sealed cartons of 6 planks. Coverage of 2.166m2 per carton. Carton weight of 18.0kg

Some considerations when ordering your floorboards
Ensure you order everything you need to complete your flooring project. Make sure you order enough coverage and get all the extras (such as underlay, stair nosing, scotia) you need at once. We will deliver it all with your floorboards. We recommend you consider the following:
What coverage do you need? Calculate the floor surface area required in square metres. Include doorways and stairways. Add up to 10% as a buffer for wastage and to allow you to stagger board lengths efficiently.
Do you want underlay? Laying premium underlay can provide important benefits: subfloor protection, smooth out minor sub-floor imperfections, tread cushioning, moisture barrier, and acoustic abatement.
Need stair bull noses? Architecturally designed solid oak stair nosing is your best choice - available in all the Moku finishes. This is only available to be purchased with a floor board order. See more details here.
Need scotia (edging/moulding)? Use scotia edging trims to cover perimeter expansion gaps along skirting boards, walls, kitchen kickboards and cabinets. Available in all the Moku finishes. See more details here.
Installation of engineered floorboards is easy
Installation of these floorboards is easier than you think. They can be installed as a floating floor over suitable underlay, or installed using the direct stick (glued down) method. Preparation and having the right tools is the key. The tongue and groove system ensures your floor boards are accurately installed. We recommend joins are glued with a flexible premium hardwood PVA adhesive.
Download the Moku Floorboard Installation Instructions - they are important to ensure your floating floor is installed properly and covered fully by the warranty.
